I’ve Decided to Bring Elvis Back to Life
If that doesn’t get your attention, I don’t think anything ever will.
Yes, I’ve decided to bring Elvis Presley back to life in my next book, Cloning Elvis.
Unlike my previous book, Cloning Elvis is a work of fiction. Technically science fiction, but trust me it’s light sci-fi and hopefully a bit humorous.
My initial goal had been to coordinate the release of the book with the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ death on August 16th.
For various reasons (a big one being procrastination) that didn’t quite work out. But that actually became a good thing.
It allowed me to do a little more research into the subject character of my book.
I visited Memphis in July and went to Graceland.
I took a tour of Sun Studios and stood where Elvis did when he recorded while holding the microphone that he and so many other great performers actually used!
I even wound up having breakfast in his favorite booth at the Arcade Restaurant.
Being in the places where Elvis once inhabited helped me get a much better feel for him in a lot of ways.
It also brought me face to face with Elvis fans from all over the world, fans I don’t want to disappoint with this book.
Elvis means so much to them in so many different ways. That made it very clear to me that I need to put more into this book as they are the ones I’m really writing it for.
As of today I’m about a third of the way into the third draft of Cloning Elvis. I anticipate I’ll need to do one more draft and a polish after that before releasing the book to the public.
But between now and then I’m going to need your help.
Tell what’s your favorite thing or memory about Elvis Presley?
Do you have an Elvis song that is absolutely your favorite?
Has Elvis had any type of an impact on your life?
Please let me know as it will be very helpful as I finish up the book.
And yes he’s certainly had an impact on me. I mean other than writing a book titled Cloning Elvis, but how many other people do you know who have a replica Elvis concert jumpsuit hanging in their closet with white boots and a black pompadour wig nearby just to entertain friends when the occasion arises?
I’ll keep you updated on my progress and I’ll leave you with this.
61 years ago today – September 9, 1956 – Elvis Presley debuted on the Ed Sullivan Show.
Ironically, neither Elvis nor Sullivan were in the New York studio. Elvis was broadcast from Hollywood and Sullivan was recovering from a car accident. Charles Laughton served as Sullivan’s replacement.
To avoid controversy, the show filmed Elvis from the waist up because of the “suggestive” movements he made with his legs and his hips.
It didn’t matter. This appearance solidified Elvis’ rising star as an icon of America’s youth and eventually the King of Rock N’ Roll.
There’s never been another like him and I hope I can do him justice in my efforts to bring him back to life.
